A Little Less Planning A Little More Maui

A Little Less Planning A Little More Maui
Aloha Family & Friends,
Do you ever think about how much time we spend “planning?” From life’s big events like career choices, savings strategies, and retirement dates to the daily routines of what we’ll make for dinner. We spend a lot of time planning for what we anticipate what will or should be. Did you know the average person spends a minimum of 20 hours over 45 days planning their vacation? In essence, we’re even organizing our downtime and planning out a schedule intended to be a retreat from planning. How’s that for irony?
So, it was a pleasant surprise to catch an online post from a Maui travelers group starting with a simple statement that read: “Hot Take: The best part of Maui usually isn’t the thing you planned months in advance.”
Instead of the must-do checklists or itineraries it was about authentic experiences, simply focused on special moments. From stopping at a roadside fruit stand to sample the fresh pineapple or catching a sunset that was almost missed in the hustle of trying to make a dinner reservation, it was the unexpected moments that turned out to be the highlight.
With that, we set out to find more “Maui Moments.” And what a great task it turned out to be. Whether you call Maui home or are just visiting us, here’s a few of our favorites to consider next time you find yourself starting to break out that planner…
We tried Hula Pie for the first time! When the waiter brought out a towering slice and three spoons our little guy was smiling ear to ear. We thought there’s no way we’ll finish this. Turns out it was good to the last bite!
The music on Maui will stay with us forever. We could venture out any night of the week and find a musician playing the guitar or Ukulele. There’s just something special about watching a sunset with live Hawaiian music that changes you.
I never knew how peaceful a morning could be until I sat in the sand with the perfect cup of coffee on Kā’anapali Beach. With a rainbow just past the boat line and gentle waves rolling in, it was one of the most calming experiences I’ve ever had. I even got to see a giant turtle pop it’s head out of the water as it was cruising by; this was the best surprise ever and now a tradition.
If you’re thinking it’s time for a little less planning and a few more Maui moments, you might just give us a call. There’s a good chance we might know a guy or gal that could help.
