Sliding Into Home
As we take a step back and survey our current state of affairs on Maui, we see – as in many other locations – two distinct facts. First of all, COVID awareness continues to be a consideration as we plan our activities. But secondly, with the easing of travel restrictions and the March 25th end date of mask requirements, we feel that we are somewhat returning to “normal” on this beautiful island and sliding into home.
From a real estate perspective, what does that mean? At the moment, although the inventory continues to remain low, buyer inquiries are prevalent, and sales are consistent. Therefore, if we had to look into our proverbial crystal ball, we would anticipate a very busy summer into autumn. Generally, when tourism is flourishing then the island real estate community is also busy. This effect is only increased by all that’s going on in the world.
With reduced confidence in booking international travel, whether due to lingering effects of COVID or global conflict, the idea of spending time in Hawaii might be more desirable than ever. Because as we know, it covers all the bases of an exotic getaway and a tropical paradise, yet it’s still … home.
Speaking of home, here are some Hawaiian Style Sliders. Hope they’re as popular with your Ohana as they are with ours!
Cheers! Greg & Leah
Here’s a fresh new recipe for March you can share with your ohana!

- 2 pork tenderloins
- 1/2 cup King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Pineapple BBQ Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Spam Sliders:
- 1 container SPAM Classic
Remaining Ingredients:
- 1 package King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- BBQ sauce
Tropical Slaw:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 (10-ounce) package coleslaw mix
- 1 carrot, shredded
- 4 Slices DOLE Pineapple, finely chopped
- 3 green onions, sliced
- 1/4 cup chopped Mauna Loa Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts
Instructions
To make pork for sliders, lightly grease a crock pot insert and place pork tenderloins in crock pot. Mix together BBQ Sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes in a bowl and pour into crock pot. Cover and cook on low 7 hours. Shred pork with 2 forks and continue to cook for 15 to 20 minutes.
To make SPAM®, slice into 1/2 inch slices and cook until browned on both sides in a nonstick pan coated with Vegetable oil. Cut each piece in half so that it fits on the rolls.
To make slaw, mix together mayonnaise, vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar in a large bowl.
Add coleslaw mix, shredded carrot, pineapple, and green onions and stir to mix well. Sprinkle macadamia nuts on top and refrigerate until ready to use.
Cut rolls open and fill half with pork filling and half with SPAM® slices. Drizzle with BBQ sauce and top with coleslaw.
ENJOY!
